Indiana University is the beneficiary of a new $5 million grant with the purpose of creating a new center. The Indiana Center on Teacher Quality seeks to grow the numbers of teachers in special education.
The description of the new center via The Indianapolis Star says:
The Indiana Center on Teacher Quality is aimed at recruiting and offering professional development to educators who serve students with disabilities.
The grant comes after Superintendent of Public Instruction Glenda Ritz created a commission to devise strategies to grow Indiana’s teaching ranks — though many of the group’s ideas requiring legislative action died this year at the Indiana General Assembly.
The center will also support current classroom teachers.
