As per state law, local under-performing schools are participating in hearings to determine the next steps.
Technically decisions are not formally made at the hearings but the options are:
1. Release the school from “turnaround status”.
2. Continue working with the school as is.
3. Give the school a new operator
4. Give the school back to the district as an “innovation network school”
The turnaround program has had its criticisms and difficulties.
Schools are typically eyed for potential turnaround after failing to meet adequate yearly progress for a certain number of years.
