Charter school funding is always a hot button issue. Now in Mississippi, it’s also a legal issue.
Parents in Mississippi have filed a lawsuit against the state claiming that it is unconstitutional to take money from Jackson Public School District, and give it to charter schools. They are fighting the state in court with the help of the Southern Poverty Law Center.
One of the plaintiffs in the case has children with disabilities. She believes that Jackson Public Schools lacks the resources to adequately care for her children due to funds being provided to charter schools.
The Southern Poverty Law Center has asked the judge for a summary judgement in order to get a quick answer.
