Thursday the Obama administration urged better clarity around the roles and responsibilities of school police officers.
This comes on the heels of a nationwide controversy about school safety officers and their conduct.
The Education and Justice departments called for special training and memoranda of understanding signings for officers that are placed in school settings.
According to the Washington Post, Secretary of education John King, had mixed feelings about the current use of officers in school.
“Police officers can be a force for good in a school by building strong relationships with students,” Education Secretary John King said in a call with reporters Wednesday. But too often they become de facto disciplinarians leading to unnecessary citations and altercations.”
