The United States Department of Agriculture awarded the Indiana Department of Education a grant this week. The grant is supposed to support school nutrition programs around the state. The total grant was $372,522.
Specifically, the grant will be used for professional development and wellness policy training for the school nutrition professionals. The end goal is to “increase student consumption of fruits and vegetables and improving student health.”
Indiana’s Superintendent of Public Instruction, Glenda Ritz, believes the grant will enable Indiana to expand their current nutrition efforts.
“Indiana’s school nutrition professionals provide nutritious and healthy meals to hundreds of thousands of students each day. This grant will allow the Department to expand our training and support for those hardworking professionals who are in our schools serving students every day.” Said Ritz
