The ISTEP Replacement Panel was convened to find a replacement for the ISTEP, exactly as their name implies. To date they haven’t made much progress.
Glenda Ritz outlined her preferred testing system in a press release yesterday. She claims her system would be a “Student-Centered Assessment”. According to the DOE’s website, Rtiz’s proposal would cut test time by an estimated 8 hours and save tax payers $12 million dollars every year.
This according to Ritz is much better than the previously used ISTEP test.
“Families and educators have made it clear that they want to get rid of the punitive, pass/fail ISTEP test. That is why I am outlining a student-centered initiative to meet the unique needs and education levels of each individual student. Under this approach, families, educators, and students will finally have access to reliable data on how a student is performing as well as how they have grown during a school year.” Said Ritz.
It is unclear if or when this proposal will be implemented.
