Recently the government cut funding to ITT Tech. The education giant was almost solely dependent on federal money to operate and therefore had to close its doors. Many cheered the move, however, the event left more than 40,000 students displaced.
Area colleges and universities are stepping up to help effected students. Many schools are currently offering discounts on courses and transference of credits.
Ivy Tech Community College, WGU Indiana, Indiana Wesleyan University, Harrison College and Oakland City University have all offered their services to former ITT Tech students.
According to WFYI some of the college offerings include:
-
Ivy Tech Community College is waiving some course test-out fees and will consider erasing tuition balances for former Ivy Tech students who want to re-enroll.
-
WGU Indiana will use its competency-based model of earning credits to help students complete their degrees.
-
Indiana Wesleyan University will accept up to 90 ITT credits into its non-residential programs.
-
Harrison College will evaluate each ITT student transcript separately to determine which credits may be eligible for transfer.
-
Oakland City University will accept transfer credits at its two campuses.
The Indiana Commission for Higher Education has put together a FAQ page for ITT Tech students.
