The state of Indiana has been waiting on a new standardized test for quite a while. It’s been a few months since they voted to replace the ISTEP. However they had not yet decided what to replace it with until now.
According to WFYI the test did not include the broad sweeping changes that many people were looking for. Only minor changes to the existing test.
WFYI sums up the proposed changes:
“The most notable changes from the current assessment system:
-
Administering a test once a year, rather than twice
-
Putting that testing window at the end of the school year in May
-
Proposing that other Indiana teachers grade the assessment”
The recommendations also call for a shorter assessment and quicker turnaround of results, but do not specify how to achieve that.
Glenda Ritz who had proposed her own plan, stated that she was disappointed that the panel didn’t make larger changes.
