Following a nationwide trend, Indiana teachers are calling for action from their policymakers. Thousands of Indiana teachers have pledged to descend on the statehouse for a rally on November 19. Normally, this would place a strain on area schools, but many schools have canceled classes in anticipation of the day.
Indianapolis Public Schools has canceled school and made the day an optional PD day:
“In support of IPS teachers planning to attend the Red for Ed Action Day”.
Around 30 other school districts have canceled school or converted the day to an “e-learning day.”
Teachers are rallying for a number of reasons. Pay, of course, is never far from the conversation but ILEARN scores and policies about license renewal are rallying calls as well.
Indy K12 will provide a full list of school closures as the date approaches.
