Earlier today, Avon district officials notified families that a Hickory Elementary student had tested positive for coronavirus. As a result, that particular school was scheduled to be closed for two weeks and all other Avon schools were to have one e-learning day today.
However, precautions have now been stepped up even further as it has been announced that all Avon schools will be closed through next Friday. This comes on the heels of a second student showing symptoms of the virus.
The district will utilize e-learning days. Additionally, Avon Community School Corporation Superintendent Maggie Hoernemann has said that food packages would be available for families who need food during the school closure.
The Marion County Public Health Department has issued a letter in regard to the virus. In the letter, Indianapolis residents are assured that the “risk of becoming infected with COVID-19 in Marion County is low.”
Even still, Indianapolis Public Schools has created and released a response plan.
