It is election season, and there are less than 30 days until Election Day. In addition to the all-important presidential election, many school board races are happening across our city that could drastically change the education landscape. School board elections often get overshadowed by the high-profile election races, but we must prioritize and be just as informed about who is running for seats on a school board. It matters who gets to make the decisions for our children regarding their education. School board members have critical jobs, including budget and financing within the district, superintendent oversight, curricula adoption, and school openings and school closings. We cannot afford to be asleep at the wheel when it comes to school board elections; these elections have an impact that is often felt more than those high-profile election races.
In a joint streaming with Indy K12, The Recess Podcast will be live streaming a four part series where individuals running for school boards across four school districts in Indianapolis will answer an array of questions around why they are running and what their plans will be if elected or reelected. We will have candidates from Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) , Pike Township , Warren Township , and Wayne Township.
