In Indiana, teachers are currently not being prioritized for the COVID-19 vaccine. However, maybe this will change due to information shared by President Biden.
President Biden believes there will be enough COVID-19 vaccines available by the end of May for all adults. In addition, he tweeted:
Today, I am directing every state to prioritize educators for vaccination. We want every educator, school staff member, and child-care worker to receive at least one shot by the end of this month.
It’s time to treat in-person learning like the essential service that it is.
Just like in the general population, not all teachers want the vaccine; however, I believe it should be available. In addition, schools should also prioritize other safety measures. For example, it wasn’t until the second semester of this school year where I was provided with supplies to sanitize my office. I know I am not alone. There have been numerous accounts of teachers sharing they do not have the proper amount of PPE to stay healthy and safe.
There are several steps that must be taken to reopen all schools across America for in-person instruction. Prioritizing teacher vaccination is one step in that direction.
