As the new school year looms closer, school districts have released guidance to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Currently, children under 12 cannot be vaccinated since there is not a vaccine that is ready for public use for this age range. Although the death rate for children is low compared to adults, school leaders want to ensure they are providing a safe environment for both students and staff.
Recently, the Marion County Public Health Department released guidance for school districts for the 2021-2022 school year. Those recommendations include not requiring masks for vaccinated individuals. Due to federal guidelines, all students and staff must wear a mask while on a school bus.
Below are the COVID-19 guidelines for the eleven school districts within Marion County. If parents have additional questions or concerns, they should contact their children’s principal.
